NYC - Statue of Liberty

This week has passed by in a flash! I personally blame the bank holiday which totally threw me off balance. I have lots of NYC posts lined up to show you all what we got up to on our trip. So without further ado, we delve in to our second morning in the Big Apple.

We stopped at Box Kite Coffee for a caffeine pick me up and set our plan of action for the day. The weather was slightly overcast, but it didn't dampen our spirits, maybe helped by the coffee *wink wink*. We hopped on the subway to Battery Park and headed over to Liberty Island to see the Lady herself!

There's nothing like seeing an incredible monument like the Statue of Liberty with your own two eyes. No matter how many pictures or films you've seen, nothing beats the feeling of seeing her in the flesh! After our full packed first day in the city, the trip began to feel real and not like it was all a fantastic dream. We took the boat over to Ellis Island to see the Immigration Musuem, which is something that I didn't get the chance to do on a previous visit. Before re-opening as a museum in the 90‘s, the immigration hall was restored to the same decor as it was in the early 20th century. The hall is stunning, tiled floor to ceiling, it’s hard to believe over 12 million immigrants who entered America during that time period travelled through the same hall. A truly surreal yet incredible place to visit and imagine all of the people who’d be there previously.

We then jumped back on the boat and headed for Manhattan where our adventures continued...

  1. great photos! When I was younger, they used to let people go inside up to the crown. My mom in the 80s went up to the torch, but those days are long gone now =(

    1. Thanks Farrah, glad you liked the post! I remember seeing photos from when you used to be able to visit and go inside the crown, shame they don't do that anymore.
