NYC - Exploring Soho

We landed into JFK as the sun was setting over Manhattan. A rather beautiful welcome to the Big Apple if you ask me. I have visited NYC twice before, and each time we have landed at night each, so it was a nice surprise this time to see sweeping views of Manhattan in the golden haze of the sunset.

This was Ollie's first time visiting NYC, and we were both seriously buzzing and itching to explore the city together. We navigated our way through the subway system to our apartment in East Village, which we found via Airbnb. Prior to our arrival we'd checked out what was in the local area, but to actually arrive and the street we were staying on to have such a buzz and atmosphere was a great way to see the city that never sleeps first hand.We dropped off our bags and made a beeline for 'Crif Dogs' for a bite to eat before getting some shut eye ready for a full day of exploring the next day!

We both woke up fairly early the next morning, luckily to both our surprise not at 4am. We got ready and headed out for the day. We walked through East Village and through to Soho and went to Jacks Wife Freda for brunch (somewhere I've been waiting a long to time to go to but more on this in another post). We then went onto explore Soho and Noho browsing the shops along the way and then wandered up to Greenwich Village. It was so nice to immerse ourselves in the city and wander around together. New York was starting to look even more beautiful as the blossoms had begun to bloom and the sign of Spring was truly on its way.

We stopped by places I remember from my last trip including 'Murray's Cheese' and 'Matt Umanov Guitars' where Ollie tried out a few jazz basses. 'Paper Source' was a particular shop I remembered and liked a lot (the stationery fanatic that I am). We don't have this store in the UK but I wish we did. They had so many beautiful ranges, along with gifts, prints and craft supplies. Later that afternoon we headed back towards East Village, you'll have to check out my next post to see what we go up to.
