NYC - 9/11 Memorial Musuem

We awoke to sunlight streaming through the apartment windows. We jumped up and headed straight out to enjoy the most of it, and walked through East Village in search of Momofuku Milk Bar, somewhere I’d heard a lot about prior to our visit. An innovative bakery part of the Momofuku family, I’d seen their cereal milk soft serve all over my instagram feed for months. So I couldn’t visit NYC without trying one myself! It tastes just like the milk at the bottom of the bowl of cornflakes, in frozen form and topped off with crushed cornflakes. If that’s not the perfect way to start a sunny spring day in NYC, I’m not sure what is?!

We headed downtown on the subway to the World Trade Centre site, somewhere I hadn’t had the chance to see on previous trips. Ollie was very interested in visiting was the 9/11 Memorial musuem and this was also included in our City Pass. 9/11 has had such a powerful impact on our lives. Ask anyone where they were when they found out about it and they can pretty much pin-point the moment, place and time. I’m really glad we took a good amount of time to look around the memorial and museum. We were there for quite a few hours and could have easily spent longer reading through the in depth stories and accounts of that day. The musuem has been put together in such an incredible and impactful way.
The thing that hit home the most for me, was how everyone stuck together and helped one another through that day and in the days and months that passed. The people that selflessly risked their lives to help others and the families that lost loved ones. The strength of the community and created by this event astounds me. The Ground Zero fountains are a beautiful tribute to those who lost their lives and a wonderful memorial for their families to visit and for people to come and pay their respects. The 9/11 Memorial Musuem might not be somewhere you’d thought of visiting when planning a trip to New York but I would urge you to book tickets, it is a truly eye-opening experience. It definitely had an emotional impact on myself and Ollie and we were very glad to have visited during our stay. This memorial and musuem ensures that everyone that was affected by the events on 9/11 will never be forgotten.
