Upon booking our accommodation for NYC we considered lots of different areas, as it was Ollie's first visit we thought it would be great to stay in Manhattan but of course we couldn't not visit Brooklyn too which worked out perfectly for our anniversary stay at Aloft Brooklyn. Our Airbnb in Manhattan was right by 'Tompkins Square Park' which I could imagine now at the start of summer is a very different picture, to when we were there in April. We both still fell in love with it however. An area just for dogs and their owners to socialise was a nice touch and a there was a glimpse of the magnificent Empire State in the distance too. East Village was such a cool place to call home for the week and we really fell in love with the area and can't wait to explore more of it and what it has to offer on our next visit.
After walking around Tompkins Square Park we headed over to Williamsburg, Brooklyn to Smorgasburg. My sister and her husband said we should check it out and I'm so glad we did! A weekend food market, based in two locations across Brooklyn and home to some of the finest food stalls I've ever laid eyes on! I'd seen 'Dough' pop up on my instagram feed countless times, so knew immediately no matter how full we were, we'd be walking away with doughnuts in tow. Ollie opted for a Philly Cheese-steak and I had a wood fired oven pizza. Both were insanely mouthwatering and as I write this, the thought has given me serious food envy! The view from the location was pretty amazing too, overlooking the whole of midtown Manhattan. Granted it would have been even nicer on a sunnier day, but after all even in the rain we'd both still fallen head over heels for New York!
We also stopped by 'Artists and Fleas' market before making our way to Aloft Brooklyn.
